The original 'Outlaw'. Rod Emory's family has been customizing Porsche 356s since the hobby existed.

Rod Emory effectively invented the 356 'Outlaw' (the hot-rodded Porsche 356) drawing on a family customizing lineage that goes back to his grandfather's 1950s hot rod shop. Emory Motorsports builds 356 Outlaws, RS models and the radical 'Emory Special' bodies, typically powered by the in-house 'Emory-Rothsport' four-cam-style flat-four. These are among the most respected customs in the Porsche world: historically literate, beautifully made, and driven by their owners. The definitive address for a 356 with attitude.

The Porsche 356 program, marketed as the Emory Outlaw (alongside the related Emory Special, reserved for builds with a quieter, less competition-flavored look), begins with an original steel 356 body and chassis, built the way Porsche produced it in Germany, then carries that structure through a concours-grade restoration before adapting it for everyday, real-world driving. Every Outlaw and Special comes standard with the shop's own Emory-Rothsport Outlaw-4 engine, a twin-plug four-cylinder built from 3.6-liter Porsche dry-sump components, with final displacement landing between 2.4 and 2.6 liters depending on the build. Most examples take on a competition- or motorsport-flavored look, though clients wanting something closer to factory-stock can specify that instead. The marque is widely credited as the originator of the 356 Outlaw genre of Porsche restomodding.

Original Porsche 911 Restored by Emory

Available to commission

Emory's second line applies the same philosophy to the original air-cooled Porsche 911, restoring genuine early cars with a competition-inspired edge rather than building continuation replicas. These builds are undertaken more selectively than the 356 program, reserved for cars Emory considers worthy of the treatment, and combine period-correct steel bodywork with the shop's own performance and handling upgrades to sharpen the driving experience while preserving the 911's original character. As with the 356 cars, the emphasis stays on honest, road-ready mechanical improvement over cosmetic reinterpretation, keeping the restored 911 recognizably factory-correct in silhouette while meaningfully quicker and more composed to drive.
