The Banks family's Clevedon firm behind the GTA-R 290, widely rated the finest Alfa Romeo restomod in the world.
Alfaholics is the Banks family's Clevedon firm and the defining name in Alfa Romeo restomods. Its GTA-R 290 takes the 105-series Giulia GTA shape and rebuilds it over more than 3,000 hours with titanium suspension components, a high-revving twin-cam and kerb weights around 830kg. Chris Harris and others have rated it among the best driver's cars they have experienced at any price. Family run, engineering led, with a parts business that supports the whole Alfa community, it is the Italian counterpoint to Singer.
Models & builds
GTA-R
Available to commissionThe GTA-R is Alfaholics' reimagining of the Bertone-designed 105 series coupé, evolved from the company's own GTA racing heritage into a road car built with more than 3,500 hours of work per example. The well-known 290 specification pairs a 2.3 litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder producing 240 hp with a kerb weight of just 830 kg, giving the car its name through a power-to-weight ratio of 290 hp per tonne, achieved partly through carbon fibre doors, bonnet and bootlid, an aluminium propshaft with rifle-drilled half-shafts and counterweighted pistons, riding on adjustable gas dampers and stopping via six-pot aluminium front calipers gripping 300mm discs. Development has run for more than two decades, with testing at the NŸrburgring Nordschleife, Silverstone and across the Welsh mountains, and the result has been praised by Chris Harris on Top Gear as some of the best driving he has experienced, while Top Gear's own Resto Gods feature called it possibly the greatest giant-killing driving experience of them all.

Super-R
Available to commissionThe Super-R applies the same philosophy to Alfa Romeo's Giulia saloon, another chassis-up build receiving over 3,500 hours of work, with the same re-engineered suspension, dyno-tuned exhaust, strengthened gearbox and titanium-tubed limited-slip axle developed across the wider Alfaholics-R range. A full titanium suspension specification can shed around 34 kg of unsprung weight from a car that, despite seating four adults with luggage, weighs under 900 kg, with top-specification 2.3 litre throttle-body builds pricing at close to half a million dollars and a order book reportedly stretching out to 2030. Hagerty's Henry Catchpole called it the family restomod and perhaps the ultimate restomod, while Road & Track's Jethro Bovingdon noted that Alfaholics has enhanced and purified the Giulia's core qualities rather than disguising them.

Spider-R
Available to commissionThe Spider-R brings the same chassis-up, 3,500-plus-hour build process to the Pininfarina-designed 101 and 105 series Spider, sharing the GTA-R and Super-R's re-engineered suspension geometry, dyno-developed exhaust, uprated gearbox internals and titanium-tubed limited-slip axle. Specification is tailored to each customer, with completed cars ranging from a 200 hp twin-cam four-cylinder running Motec fuel injection to a 220 hp 3.0 litre 24-valve Busso V6 conversion, alongside options such as four-pot brakes and electric power steering, all proven through the same NŸrburgring, Silverstone and Welsh-road development programme used across the rest of the range.

Remastered
Available to commissionRemastered sits apart from the full Alfaholics-R builds as a way to bring an owner's existing 105 series GT, Saloon or Spider up to Alfaholics-R specification without starting from a fresh shell. The car is stripped back to a bare, painted bodyshell and reassembled exclusively using Alfaholics-R parts, a process taking more than 1,700 hours, roughly half that of a ground-up R build, and typically includes engine upgrades such as a 240 hp 2.1 litre Twin Spark conversion with Motec fuel injection, titanium Ultraleggera suspension and axle components, carbon fibre bonnet and boot lid, and a full retrim in the owner's choice of leather with options including air conditioning and electric power steering.
