Theon Design
Featured house🇬🇧 Oxfordshire · United Kingdom
Britain's answer to Singer. Bespoke 964-based commissions with supercharged flat-six options and exquisite, restrained detailing.
Theon Design, founded by former automotive designer Adam Hawley in Oxfordshire, builds one-off 964-based commissions distinguished by design discipline: every car is developed like a manufacturer prototype, with buck-formed bodywork in steel or carbon, in-house engineering, and engines up to a supercharged 3.6. Theon's cars are frequently praised by the specialist press for driving as resolved as they look. A builder that has earned its place in the conversation alongside Singer and Gunther Werks, with a distinctly British sensibility.
Models & builds
Coupe
Limited series (50)The Coupe is Theon's foundational model, its shape drawing on the proportions of the early 911 RS and ST cars, built in either lightweight carbon fibre or traditional steel with turbo-look exhausts and machined aluminium mirrors inspired by the 991 Speedster concept. Buyers choose from three naturally aspirated flat-six displacements, 3.6, 3.8 or 4.0 litres, or opt for forced induction through supercharging or turbocharging, with the standard air-cooled engines using dry sump lubrication, individual throttle bodies fed by a GT3-style plenum or open trumpets, and MoTec engine management to produce upward of 420 bhp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Drive reaches the rear wheels through a five-speed or six-speed Hewland G50 gearbox and a limited-slip differential, with a body that mixes steel construction with carbon fibre wings, bonnet, roof, bumpers and spoiler while keeping steel doors for side-impact protection, riding on KW coilovers or TracTive's semi-active ACE suspension and stopping via 964 RS-derived or carbon ceramic brakes. At around 1,150 kg and a 46:54 front-to-rear weight split, the finished car delivers roughly 350 bhp per tonne, wrapped around an interior trimmed in leather, carbon fibre and aluminium switchgear with instruments styled after early 911 dials.

Targa
Limited series (25)The Targa applies the same 964-based platform and engine range as the Coupe but reworks it for open-top use, built around a system of bespoke carbon fibre reinforcement tubs bonded into the floor of the chassis, a technique borrowed from Formula 1 composite construction, to restore the torsional rigidity a roof normally provides without adding significant weight. That stiffened base lets the Targa retain the Coupe's precise, planted handling with the roof on or off, an experience that can be further tuned through the optional five-stage TracTive ACE damping system. The removable roof itself has been re-engineered for better sound insulation and durability, folding away into a trimmed carry case that stows in the car's front luggage compartment, with the car coming in at roughly 1,190 kg, slightly heavier than the Coupe due to the added chassis strengthening, but sharing the same 350 bhp-per-tonne target and 46:54 weight distribution.

Theon R
Limited series (24)The Theon R sits above the rest of the range as the marque's purest, most stripped-back air-cooled 911, built to weigh in under 1,000 kg fully fuelled through extensive use of carbon fibre across every body panel, including the doors, developed with a Formula 1 composites supplier and combined with comprehensive seam welding and the same bonded carbon strengthening tubs used on the Targa. Power comes from the most highly strung version of Theon's 4.0 litre air-cooled flat six, with a 24-valve dual overhead cam head producing more than 500 bhp, over 125 bhp per litre, and over 400 Nm of torque while revving past 9,000 rpm, sent through a short-throw six-speed manual transaxle and a Wavetrac limited-slip differential to reach 60 mph in around 3 seconds and 100 mph in about 6.5 seconds. Chassis control comes from a bespoke, fully adjustable Motion Control Suspension system drawn from Porsche's own racing series, paired with Brembo monoblock ceramic brakes and an aerodynamic package that adds a fixed rear wing, roof-mounted aero channel, front splitter, rear diffuser and flat floor, giving the R a power-to-weight ratio Theon says exceeds that of any production 911.
