New-build Mk1 and Mk2 Ford Escorts as rally-bred restomods regarded as the benchmark for the breed.
MST Cars builds brand-new Mk1 and Mk2 Ford Escorts from its base in Pwllheli, North Wales, sharing a site with parts giant Motorsport Tools. Built on new shells with rally-bred engineering, the cars run from road-biased Touring specification to full competition builds, with modern Millington or Duratec power delivering the flame-spitting character of the works rally Escorts. The press regularly rates them the benchmark of the breed.
Models & builds
Mk1 & Mk 2
Available to commissionThe Mk1 and Mk2 ranges share an identical structure, each offered in two distinct trims. The Sports models, built to AVO and Rallye Sport specification, pair a 2.0 litre 16v twin cam engine producing around 180 bhp with a 5-speed T5 H-pattern gearbox, adjustable McPherson front suspension with a twin-cam anti-roll bar, 4-pot alloy front calipers and solid rear discs, and a retro sports interior with reclining seats, riding on 13 inch 4-spoke or RS-4 spoke wheels behind flared front arches (Mexico-style on the Mk2). The Fast Road & Touring models step up to a 2.5 litre 16v Duratec engine at 200-plus bhp, backed by a 5 or 6-speed close-ratio H-pattern gearbox and an Atlas axle with a torque-biasing differential. Both cars ride on Bilstein adjustable coilover suspension with anti-tramp bars and uprated leaf springs at the rear, AP Racing 4-pot front and 2-pot rear brakes, and iconic 13 inch Minilite wheels, with a Life Racing ECU, modern motorsport wiring and a fully bespoke, hand-trimmed interior finished to the owner's specification in any colour or livery. Stage 2, the Fast Road & Track, moves onto a Group-4 rally specification bodyshell with a full weld-in rollcage and six-linked, turreted rear axle, pairing Bilstein Group-4 coilovers and AP Racing brakes with engine options up to 300-plus bhp, including the Duratec, Ford BDG and Millington Diamond units, and a choice of H-pattern or sequential gearboxes. The Group-4 Rally car is a purpose-built competition version of that same bodyshell prepared to modern MSA or historic FIA regulations, running a 250-plus bhp rally-spec engine, a fully floating Atlas axle with plated limited-slip differential and full FIA safety equipment, while the range-topping Ultimate Rally car adds a WRC-spec rollcage and long-travel suspension geometry, a 330-plus bhp Millington Diamond engine, a Tractive six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle or flat-shift control, and Reiger four-way adjustable dampers front and rear for the highest level of stage and tarmac performance.

Mk1 Evo
Available to commissionThe Mk1 Evo takes the Escort silhouette into full motorsport territory, developed over two years from concept drawings and clay-modelled wheel arch styling into a car built to modern race specification with carbon fibre evolution arches and a carbon rear diffuser. It is engineered to run on 17 inch wheels while retaining the Mk1's handling character, aided by a new independent rear suspension system originally designed and tested by the late Colin McRae for his own Mk2 Escort rally car, alongside Bilstein motorsport coilovers front and rear and AP Racing 6-pot front and 4-pot rear calipers. Power comes from the Millington Diamond naturally aspirated four-cylinder, a 2.7 litre unit producing over 330 bhp as standard with a 2.8 litre, 360-plus bhp upgrade, driving through a Tractive 6-speed sequential gearbox or T5 H-pattern unit and a WRC-spec limited-slip differential, with the order book already open against a limited run of 2027 build slots.

Mk2 Evo X
Available to commissionThe Mk2 Evo-X applies the same philosophy to the Mk2 shell with a full carbon fibre outer body, reviving the iconic "droop snoot" front end of the 1970s Series-X Mk2 alongside a carbon rear spoiler and diffuser. Like the Mk1 Evo, it is built to run on 17 inch wheels without sacrificing the Mk2's handling, sharing the McRae-developed independent rear suspension, Bilstein motorsport coilovers and AP Racing 6-pot and 4-pot brakes. Buyers can specify either a 2.5 litre Duratec engine or the Millington Diamond four-cylinder, offered in 2.7 litre form at over 330 bhp or 2.8 litre form at over 360 bhp, again paired with a Tractive 6-speed sequential or T5 H-pattern gearbox and WRC-spec limited-slip differential. Build slots for the Mk2 Evo-X are similarly limited, with the order book currently open.
