KALMAR Automotive

Featured house

🇩🇰 Solrød Strand · Denmark

Danish-founded builder of the 7-97 series and the 9X9. From featherweight backdates to a 959-inspired modern hypercar.

Founded by Jan Kalmar, KALMAR Automotive approaches the restomod formula from a Scandinavian angle: purposeful, lightweight, and usable. The 7-97 range reimagines the 911 as an analog driver's car (with an electric version available), the RS-6 turns it into a rally-raid machine, and the 9X9 goes the other way entirely, a modern turbocharged hypercar wearing 959-inspired bodywork. KALMAR also runs driving expeditions to places like the Arctic, which tells you what the cars are built for: being driven, far and hard.

Models & builds

7-97 Classic / Cabriolet / Air / E-Volt

Available to commission

The KALMAR 7-97 Classic, Cabriolet, Air and E-Volt form the marque's core range of 964- and 993-based 911 reinterpretations, each built around a KALMAR in-house full carbon fiber body widened by 110mm while retaining the iconic silhouette. The Classic Coupe is the lightest and stiffest of the trio thanks to its removed rain gutters, the Cabriolet adds a foldable roof for open-air driving, and the Air pairs a large retractable glass roof with reduced wind noise for year-round convertible use; all three share a base 3.8-liter engine producing 355hp and 410 Nm of torque, with an optional "Triple-4" unit raising output to 401hp and 450 Nm through a six-speed gearbox with limited-slip differential (993 only), adaptive shock absorbers and a KALMAR sports brake system. The E-Volt takes the same bodywork and philosophy fully electric, running a refurbished and re-engineered Tesla Model S drivetrain producing over 414hp and 600 Nm from a 63kWh 350V battery pack with DC fast charging, using a new-for-2024 plant fiber bodywork that cuts CO2 emissions by up to 78 percent versus carbon fiber while keeping curb weight equal to the donor car, all in a fully reversible conversion. Production across the Classic range is limited to 12 cars per year worldwide.

7-97 Evo

Available to commission

The KALMAR 7-97 Evo is the off-road-focused sibling of the Classic range, lifted for greater ground clearance and wrapped in Kevlar rather than carbon fiber to withstand rally and ice-racing abuse, with a fully seam-welded chassis, relocated radiator, extra intake snorkels and a ducktail-inspired rear spoiler over a 110mm-wider rear track. It shares the Classic's 3.8-liter base engine (355hp, 410 Nm) or optional Triple-4 unit (401hp, 450 Nm), but adds adaptive shocks with front and rear lift functions for over 25cm of ground clearance, a bespoke limited-slip differential, rose-jointed suspension with the rear anti-roll bar removed, and full aluminum-Kevlar underbody protection, developed in partnership with KALMAR's sister overland outfit, KALMAR Beyond Adventure.

7-97 Turbo

Limited series (11)

The KALMAR 7-97 Turbo reinterprets the Porsche 930 Turbo, the car that introduced turbocharging to Porsche's road range, using the 993 platform as its donor and limited to just 11 units split between Coupe and Cabriolet body styles. At its core is a bespoke 3.2-liter twin-turbocharged engine with a Porsche 962-inspired intake system, smaller and stronger pistons, custom camshafts and drive-by-wire throttle control, producing over 670hp and 660 Nm, paired with a modern Turbo whale-tail spoiler, 911 R-inspired front intakes and carbon fiber body panels including doors and roof. Adaptive suspension, traction control and ABS modernize the driving experience, with an optional four-wheel-drive C4 upgrade, ceramic brakes and a front axle lift system available.

9x9

Limited series (27)

The KALMAR 9X9 is the marque's tribute to the Porsche 959, positioned as an entirely new category the company calls the "Retro Hypercar," built on a 993 chassis for homologation ease and paired with running gear sourced from contemporary 992 models. It's offered across three parallel model lines: the Comfort model with a 3.8-liter turbo engine, PDK transmission and active all-wheel drive delivering over 900hp; the Sport model with a 3.0-liter turbo, 7-speed manual and 992-sourced AWD producing 650hp; and the Leichtbau, a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter, 6-speed manual, rear-wheel-drive purist build focused on extreme weight reduction. The three lines are distinguished less by badge than by character: Comfort is the effortless, active-AWD grand tourer, Sport sharpens driver involvement with reduced insulation and a raw induction note while keeping all-wheel drive, and Leichtbau strips everything back to a purist, high-revving, rear-drive homage to the original homologation specials. Every 9X9 rides on a bespoke double-wishbone pushrod front axle with adaptive shock absorbers and rear-wheel steering, generates over 157kg of downforce at 130km/h (rising past 1,450kg at peak) through a full carbon fiber body and ground-effect underbody, and is strictly limited to 9 units per model line, with full EU homologation in place and T†V oversight throughout development.
