Rubau Cars
🇪🇸 Girona · Spain
Josep Rubau’s Catalan studio, behind the Tramontana hypercar, now hand-forming a mid-engined open speedster limited to 19 cars.
Rubau Cars is a family venture near Barcelona led by Josep Rubau, an industrial designer trained at the Royal College of Art who spent years at Volkswagen’s Advanced Design studio before creating the Tramontana hypercar, and who works alongside his son Iu on modelling and certification and his daughter Júlia on strategy. The Rubau Car is a mid-engined speedster (based on the Porsche 718) with no roof or windscreen beyond a small deflector, twin cockpits divided by a central spine, exposed carbon intakes and diffusers, and a rear dome behind the driver that the company credits with a 12 percent drag reduction. Each panel is shaped by hand over a workbench before being reproduced in carbon fibre and fitted individually. Nineteen Speedsters will be built, one for each of Porsche’s Le Mans wins, each carrying its race year, distance and a driver’s quotation on a numbered plaque.
