KAEGE RETRO

Featured house

🇩🇪 Stetten (Pfalz) · Germany

German backdate specialist for 993-based Retro builds with classic long-bonnet looks and modern underpinnings.

KAEGE RETRO, the restomod arm of Kaege Automobile in Stetten, Rhineland-Palatinate, builds backdates that marry the classic long-bonnet F-model look with modern 993-generation mechanicals. Founder Roger Kaege's team produced the world's first 993 Turbo restomod, the Retro Turbo, alongside coupé and Targa variants, each built to individual specification. German engineering discipline and TÜV-clean execution are the house signature. Among European backdate specialists, one of the most technically credible.

Kaege Retro

Available to commission

Built by hand in small numbers at Kaege's workshop in Stetten, Germany, the Kaege Retro line reinterprets the long nose Porsche 911 F-model on the technical base of an air-cooled 993, giving each car its own identity rather than a straight copy, since the proportions of the two generations never quite line up. The Coupé is the founding model of the range: its 3.6 litre flat six is fully stripped, balanced and rebuilt from a donor 993, producing 286 PS as standard or 300 PS in the enlarged 3.8 litre form, paired with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive, KW-tuned coilovers with a front-axle lift, a bespoke exhaust and full carbon body panels that bring dry weight down to about 1,190 kg, more than 150 kg lighter than a stock 993. Inside sit Recaro seats, a leather wheel with airbag, hand-built retro-style instruments and a vintage-look navigation and hands-free system, with 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds and a 275 km/h top speed. The Targa follows the same formula on a 993 Cabrio base, adding a targa bar with a choice of removable vinyl soft top or a carbon-framed polycarbonate hardtop panel, at a slightly heavier 1,220 kg while keeping the Coupé’s drivetrain and performance. The Targa Glasdach takes that concept further, built on the 993 Targa and replacing the manual roof with an electrically operated glass panel and integrated sunshade, positioned as an everyday all-rounder that mixes open air motoring with coupe-like comfort. The newest addition, the Cabrio, has so far only been shown in preview images under the tagline "nostalgia, open to the sky," with full specifications still to be announced.

Kaege Retro Turbo

Available to commission

The Turbo is billed as the world's first 993 Turbo based restomod, its widened, ducktail-equipped rear drawing on the look of Porsche's 1970s RSR racers. Power comes from a reworked twin-turbo 3.6 litre flat six mated to a six-speed manual with all-wheel drive, lifting output from the donor 993 Turbo's factory 408 PS to 450 PS as standard, with an available upgrade to 510 PS, good for 0 to 100 km/h in under four seconds and a 300 km/h top speed. As with the rest of the range, extensive carbon fibre bodywork, including bespoke bumpers, hood and roof, cuts more than 150 kg versus the standard 993 Turbo, bringing dry weight to around 1,290 kg on bespoke 18 inch three-piece wheels, and third-party reporting has put pricing at roughly 490,000 euros net of tax, excluding the donor car. The Turbo S sits above it as the flagship of the range, positioned under the line "the ultimate performance," but as of now it remains listed as coming soon on Kaege's own site, with full specifications yet to be published.
